SYNOPSIS

I am a makeover artist for words.  A de-fogger of concepts.

Throughout my career, I’ve taken thousands of maddeningly incomprehensible documents—including policies, contracts, templates, proposals, business letters, marketing collateral, and internal/external communications—and made them clear, understandable, and (dare I say) enjoyable to read.  And in the process, I’ve kept my companies out of trouble.

I’m also a published humorist, an endurance athlete, and an endearingly lousy ukulele player.

This new website (www.saldetraglia.com) is my outlet to inform and entertain, on both the personal and professional fronts.

CAREER HISTORY

Coriant (formerly, Tellabs Operations, Inc.) – Naperville, Illinois
Senior Counsel and Corporate Compliance Representative (January 2008 to Present)

I was transferred from Europe to Coriant’s US headquarters to lead the legal side of business with its largest and most demanding customers—and also to improve internal relations with sales teams. I quickly built relationships and established my brand through a combination of writing excellence, speedy turnaround, user-friendliness, and common sense problem-solving. My teams and I have since negotiated and closed deals totaling hundreds of millions of dollars. Once relocated at US headquarters, I couldn’t resist taking on additional, new challenges—like running Coriant’s global integrity and ethics compliance program, and becoming the primary counselor for its North American Human Resources and Employee Benefits teams.

Tellabs Southern Europe, S.A. – Madrid, Spain
Regional Counsel (October 2000 to December 2007)

Tellabs tapped me to create a comprehensive suite of contract templates for use in sales and procurement transactions throughout the world. The resulting templates—which I drafted in a plain-English, streamlined, modular/flexible format—hugely increased deal-velocity and reduced commercial risk. Those templates are still being used today. After revamping the templates, I spent several years as lead commercial counsel for sales transactions in Central Europe, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East. I accepted a relocation package to transfer back to the US at the end of 2007.

Ernst & Young Abogados – Barcelona, Spain
Manager (January 2000 to October 2000)

I joined Ernst & Young’s Barcelona practice because I wanted the experience of living and working abroad. E&Y wanted a US attorney to manage projects for, and relationships with, its growing base of native English-speaking clients. Within a year, however, I received and accepted an offer to join Tellabs’ EMEA team.

Tellabs Operations, Inc. – Lisle, Illinois
Staff Attorney (May 1996 to November 1999)

I joined Tellabs straight from law/MBA school, at a time when it was one of the hottest and most dynamic companies in the US. Its small Legal Department was buckling under a crushing workload that spanned the legal and commercial spectrum. Despite having little work experience, I (a) wrote/edited/negotiated contracts of every size and flavor, (b) participated in over a dozen M&A deals, (c) reviewed internal/external communications and marketing collateral, (d) coordinated government filings, (e) defended the company against discrimination claims, and (f) did anything and everything needed to help this rocket ship of a company soar higher.
