  1. Hahaha… just what I needed on a Friday afternoon.

“Like a ten year old in a barbershop getting his first glimpse of Playboy magazine…” That simile is so creative I can only imagine it was borne of personal experience?

  2. Angie! My hoosier friend who only comes out on Fridays.

It wasn’t necessarily my first glimpse, but it was Matt DeJulia’s barbershop in Hermitage, Pennsylvania. I thereafter had my haircut every two weeks.

  3. Fond memories of Hampshire Barbershop in Auburn IN lol!

Your story reminds me of the time we’d been cleaned out of candy…and had to resort to grabbing the bucket where I throw all my change at the end of the day…first few groups were lucky and got quarters, by the end of the night they were getting handfulls of pennies.

  4. Ironporer, I’m from Auburn!

My office is in the same building as a beauty shop, and sometimes we can hear kids screaming through the walls, “I don’t want to get a haircut!” Sort of distracting when you’re working on deadline. Maybe the kiddies need some candy or Playboys or something to keep them happy…

  5. Hello from Las Vegas. I was doing research on professional bar supply and came across your site Sal DeTraglia. The title this post attracked me. This is good reading, I’ll pass it on to my girlfriend. She likes this kind of stuff. If you or any of your readers can help or offer information on professional bar supply let me know. Glad I ran into your inspiration. I like to read blogs for creative ideas and themes. I get a lot of good ideas for acting. Thanks again for your time. Keep it up.

  7. worse things can happen than being mistaken for kofi annan or only getting one granola bar ( you could be given a nickel “for unicef,” or come back home with only clark bars and stale milk duds)

Funny thing about Clark Bars. I don’t recall ever seeing them in candy stores or supermarkets. They just seemed to mystically appear en masse on Halloween day, and then disappear just as mysteriously for another year.

Kinda scary when you think about it, eh?

  9. Kinda like those chewy peanut butter filled candies in the orange or black wax paper wrappers. I never see them anytime other than Halloween…which is too bad- they are the best mousetrap bait in the world. Mice love PB…but just lick it off normally, so you only kill the dumb ones- the candy you can pack into the trap and get ’em all. (I had a mice problem years ago in a house)

Now you’ve really opened the floodgates. You got me thinking about…”Mallow Cups!” Man, those were my favorite of all Halloween candies. They were like a Reese’s Peanut Butter Cup, except they were filled with a mysterious, white creamy filling and had coconut mixed in with the chocolate on top. Again, I don’t recall seeing the in stores throughout the rest of the year.

Mallow Cups! Them babies is definitely too good for mice.
